About Kevin Cunningham
Kevin has been a practicing attorney for 25 years. He started his career as an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney. As an Assistant State’s Attorney, he worked his way up to the felony trial division. After seven years he went into private practice. Today, approximately half of his practice involves misdemeanor defense work and the remainder involves a wide variety of civil and municipal matters. He has handled cases in almost every division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, including the Criminal, Juvenile, Municipal, Law, Domestic Relations and Probate Divisions.
Kevin also serves as the Oak Lawn Village Prosecutor. In this capacity he manages and presents all prosecutions of traffic and ordinance violations for the Village. His most significant case for the Village of oak lawn was bringing charges against a nuisance motel, where a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted. As a result of Kevin’s prosecution, the motel eventually lost its business license.
Kevin is an active member of the Southwest Bar Association. He has held every office within the organization, and served as the Southwest Bar Association President in 2009. He has been the chairperson of the bar association's Judicial Evaluation Committee and been the chairperson of the Honorable Anthony S. Montellione Scholarship Program, which awards a $1000 college scholarship every year to a high school student based on an essay contest.
Kevin was born and raised in Mount Greenwood and is the oldest of seven children. He is a graduate of Queen of Martyrs Grammar School and Brother Rice High School. He and his wife Sarah live in West Beverly and are members of St. John Fisher Parish. Their daughter is a graduate of mother mcauley high school and attends Saint Louis University, their oldest son is a graduating senior at brother rice high school and will attend monmouth college in the fall and their youngest child attends saint barnabas grammar School.
Kevin’s community involvement includes participating in various programs at his children’s school, including Lawyers in the Classroom, which is a program that introduces school-aged children to various aspects of the U.S. Constitution. He is a member of the Holy Name Society at St. John Fisher. He has also been a little league coach in the Ridge Beverly Baseball League and managed his son's hockey team for the saint jude knights program.
Kevin has been found “Qualified” or “Recommended” by every bar association that has reviewed his credentials. The Chicago Bar Associations found that Kevin “is hardworking and well regarded for his legal knowledge, experience, and fine temperament.”
